Music Tells A Story

In some shape or from, I've DJ'd as an amateur and on/off professional since 1991. Like most, from '91 - '93 I began playing the music for school parties and youth clubs on a set of FAL console decks that I was given by a family friend and mobile DJ and by 1994 I owned a fully fledged mobile disco, booked a year in advance and being driven around by my Dad. I became very confident on the microphone and confident in what I played. Mixing the likes of Robin S, Snap and M-People with party anthems from Wham and Grease. I understood early on how to programme the night. Start off slow, let the drinks Flow, build up the energy and close with a knees up. It taught me timing, working under pressure with vinyl and how to work with a live audience. My Disco years ran to 1996 until I took up a 5 night a week residency in a local nightclub playing a similar party style. Although I was in demand and was a good entertainer, it wasn't my passion. After each disco gig, the decks returned to my bedroom for me to practise playing what I loved. By 1998 and heavily influenced by Sasha, Digweed and the Renaissance/Northern Exposure years, I was nominated for a Coca Cola DJ of the year award and really began to make progress in my Djing career. Unfortunately, due to a family break up in 2000, I gave up for good to look for more stable work and sold the majority of my record collection. I returned to mobile disco work in 2004-2011 but as each year rolled by, my enjoyment deminished and yearned for the dance music scene. In 2013, i joined a local group of people, running their own nights and playing my type of music. We quickly became friends and decided worked together. From 2013 - 2020 we grew our underground events booking DJs such as Dubspeeka, Dave Angel and Trevor Rockcliffe. During this time I was lucky enough to play a few festivals, some great venues such as Egg London and Pacha London and share a line up supporting Kolsch. Now heading into 2022 developing new sounds on my own.
